Lin Shaye thinks we’ll be getting a very different Insidious 5

The INSIDIOUS movies have been coming out at a steady pace ever since the first one was released in April of 2011, and they have been a reliable performer for Blumhouse Productions. The fourth and most recent installment, INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY, was the biggest worldwide hit of the franchise – pulling in almost $170 million at the global box office on a budget of $10 million. So it shouldn't be much longer before we hear some official news on INSIDIOUS 5, which franchise star Lin Shaye believes is in the works.

Speaking with Forbes, Shaye said

I think there is another one, that they have a story for that and it is very different. The last one, for me to have realized the character’s past, present, and future of my character, was a gift."

Shaye isn't sure if anyone is working on the script just yet, but she thinks there will be another INSIDIOUS and that she'll probably be in it. If she is, 

I’d probably be in the Further as my character is now a ghost."

The ending of INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 did leave us hanging with the idea that Shaye's character Elise Rainier would continue assisting her paranormal investigator sidekicks Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson) from the afterlife. Then the franchise jumped back in time for two prequels. With INSIDIOUS 5, maybe we'll finally catch back up with the ending of CHAPTER 2.

Blumhouse founder Jason Blum has said that he's thinking of moving the SINISTER franchise over to television. If INSIDIOUS is heading down a similar path, Shaye hasn't heard about it.

As far as a spin-off TV show? I don’t know about that. Nothing has been mentioned to me."

Personally, I would much rather see an INSIDIOUS 5 than a TV show. Hopefully a new film will be announced soon.
