It was way back in November 2017 that we passed along the news that Paramount Players was developing a feature adaptation of the kid's horror series ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK with Gary Dauberman (IT) set to write the script and THE DISAPPOINTMENTS ROOM, DISTURBIA director D.J. Caruso at the helm. But today we have some sad news as it appears Dauberman has dropped out of the film.
Dauberman:
That’s one of those things I’m no longer a part of. I just had a different vision to make it and thought it best to part ways. I don’t think that’s out there. It’s unfortunate but… that’s sometimes how it goes.
Bummer. All of this doesn't seem to bode well for the film as back in March it was pushed from its planned October 4th, 2019 release date and off Paramount's 2019 schedule altogether. Again, this is a major bummer. Especially considering that now we don't know what's up with Nickelodeon's planned small screen revival of the original series. The miniseries revival was evidently being timed to coincide with the movie's October release, but now? Who knows. We'll let you know as soon as we hear more.
ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK's synopsis:
This kids anthology series recounts ghost stories told by the young members of the Midnight Society as they gather around a campfire. Each episode opens with members of the Midnight Society at their secret spot in the woods, where they prepare their fire and the night's storyteller announces the title of the his or her offering. However, the cameras soon leave the storyteller and switch to the tale being told.
Are you a fan of the series? If so what do you think was the scariest episode? For me, it's "The Tale of Laughing in the Dark" with the runners-up being "The Tale of the Dead Man's Float", "The Tale of Old Man Corcoran" and "The Tale of the Midnight Madness" to name a few. What do you think? Let us know below! Then make sure to adjust your calendars as ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? now hits… sometime in the future… we hope.
