It’s the Booze Talkin’; We can’t wait to see Vera and Patrick in Conjuring 3

It's the booze talkin, The Conjuring, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, James Wan, horror, AITH, Arrow in the Head, JoBlo.comThe summer of 2019 isn’t one that I’m heavily looking forward to when it comes to movies. Aside from a few cool flicks, not a lot is grabbing my attention. Yet there is one movie that I’m beyond thrilled for, one that I happened to get an early look at a couple of scenes from during an edit bay visit. ANNABELLE COMES HOME is heading into theatres in just a handful of weeks and from what I’ve seen, I’m very much sold. However, there is a huge reason that I’m more excited for this than some of the other films in what they call the “Conjuring Universe.” And frankly, the reason is simple. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are returning to play Ed and Lorraine Warren in the sequel. While there is very little chance that they are in the film all that much, just to have them back on-screen together makes this horror lover extra happy. Of course there is other recent news that really gets me excited, and it involves THE CONJURING 3.

Recently, Vera Farmiga took to Twitter to release a photo of her and Mr. Wilson. The caption was “Happy first day #TheConjuring3.” Now let’s get this out there right now, I adore THE CONJURING films. While the movies that exist in this particular universe don’t always work, I remain a huge fan of both of the adventures of Ed and Lorraine Warren. And frankly, with the many investigations that the two were involved in during their lifetimes, I feel like there are a number of stories that can be told. And with a planned release date in September of 2020, I’m all the more excited to see where they go with this third chapter. And frankly, having both Wilson and Farmiga continuing playing these two iconic characters makes me about as happy as I could be. It you can't already tell, I love these flicks and I love what these two amazing talents bring to it.

The Conjuring, The Conjuring 3, It's the Booze Talkin, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, James Wan, AITH, Arrow in the Head, JoBlo.comAs mentioned, some of the spin-offs like the original ANNABELLE and the recent THE NUN don’t even come close to the impressive work presented in the spooky stories that haunted the Warrens’. But there is something truly impressive about the films that started it all. One of the most important factors in this sensational series is the incredible on-screen chemistry between the film’s leads. Both Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have become synonymous with playing the real life paranormal investigators. And yet that’s not all. The level of talent that you find with the supporting players is exceptional as well. In the original film you had Lili Taylor, Ron Livingston and some really talented youngsters. The second film continued this trend with Frances O’Connor, Franke Potente and one hell of a performance from Madison Wolfe. I can only guess that we will see another amazing group of actors in the Warren’s world for part 3.

There is one other name that you think of with THE CONJURING, and it is James Wan. Recently, I took yet another look at THE CONJURING 2 and I was awestruck by his impressive work. The filmmaker is equally brilliant at examining the people and the location of the horrors that befall the family as he is at getting spooky. In fact, the quiet moments are just as enthralling. One of my favorite scenes involves Ed trying to give the family in danger a bit of a break with a borrowed guitar and an Elvis song. This is why these movies work. The human element is just as relevant and important to the story as the scares. After all, if you don’t care about the ones being terrorized – especially in a horror film with no actual on-screen kills – you won’t give a crap when all the bad shite goes down. And frankly, it’s easy to be invested in the families haunted by a demonic force in this franchise.

The Conjuring, The Conjuring 3, It's the Booze Talkin, horror, James Wan, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, AITH, Arrow in the Head, JoBlo.comAs a fan of James, that also leads to my one minor fear about the third film. James Wan is a bit busy at the moment and he will not be stepping in as the sequel’s director. This time, Michael Chaves will be taking on directorial duties. The filmmakers recent work in THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA wasn’t too bad, but it wasn’t nearly as satisfying and complex as what we get when we visit Ed and Lorraine. That said, if the script works and if Wan is involved as much as he can be, perhaps we will see a movie with a bit more heart than the crazy weeping woman killing children. Hopefully, we will be in for yet another smart and satisfying story about two people who are madly in love, and they also happen to investigate a bunch of scary happenings. I may just be a bit too optimistic, but I fully believe that we will get a third film worth celebrating.

Maybe it’s the booze talkin’, but bring on Farmiga and Wilson for THE CONJURING 3. I love what these two have done with these wonderful characters, and I cannot wait to see their return. As mentioned, the simple fact that they are in ANNABELLE COMES HOME already gives me hope for the new scary doll flick written and directed by Gary Dauberman – and they are likely only in it for a few minutes. Yet there is something so compelling about seeing both of these incredible actors in this series. While the original Conjuring films are certainly chilling and creepy, none of it would work if you didn’t have this kind of leading performances to lead you through. And I fully believe that we are going to get a third chapter that lives up to the previous two films. Could I be wrong? Certainly. Yet something tells me that THE CONJURING 3 is going to be one of the rare trilogies that work. So yes, bring on the latest chapter… I need yet another fix of the wonders of what James Wan, Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, and the rest of his team have created.
