Netflix & Sam Raimi team for kid-horror anthology Nightbooks

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I don't know about you, but I love a solid kid's horror anthology series. I loved them as a kid and now as a dude with kiddos of his own, I love to revisit them with the little tykes from time to time. And today we have word that an all-new kid's horror anthology is headed our way from Netflix and producer Sam Raimi.  The show is called NIGHTBOOKS and it will be an adaptation of author J. A. White's children’s fantasy-horror book.

The screenwriting duo behind THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA, Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis have signed on to pen the screenplay for Raimi and Rob Tapert's of Ghost House Pictures, which will produce along with Mason Novick and Michelle Knudsen of MXN Entertainment.

The tale follows

A boy named Alex who is obsessed with scary stories, and is trapped by a witch in her modern, magical New York City apartment. His original hair-raising tales are the only thing keeping him safe as he desperately tries to find a way out of this twisted place.

I don't know about you but the first thing that grabs me about that synopsis is that it sounds an awful lot like the wrap around story used in director John Harrison's killer 1990 horror anthology TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. After all, if you're kid's horror anthology can immediately invoke memories of TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE then you already have a leg up on the competition in my eyes.

Once again, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert of Ghost House Pictures will be producing a film adaptation of author J. A. White's children's fantasy-horror book, NIGHTBOOKS for Netflix with Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (The Curse of La Llorona) will be penning the screenplay. We'll keep you guys up to date with this project as it develops. Until then make sure to hit us up and let us know if you've read the book yet below!
