Child’s Play reviews call the remake a hugely enjoyable gore-fest

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Lars Klevberg and MGM's upcoming remake of Tom Holland and Don Mancini's CHILD'S PLAY with Mark Hamill as the voice of new Chucky will be unleashed into a theater near you TOMORROW. And today we've got our hands on some of the early reviews for the movie. The movie currently holds a solid 70% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. Check some of the top quotes out below!

TheWrap

The movie's biggest strength is its balance between mordant humor and psychological fear. Everyone's focus seems to be in a very old-fashioned place, and here that's an asset.

Little White Lies

A cut above your average horror reboot.

Guardian

Child's Play bubbles with entertaining bad taste.

Nightmarish Conjurings

Child's Play may not be perfect but it delivers over-the-top gore, loads of humor, and, surprisingly, breathes new life into one of horrors most beloved and iconic characters.

SciFiNow

Although the whole enterprise rings a little shallow, it still packs a punch. Moving along with great visual flair, its nasty blend of effective jump-scares and graphic gore offers something for everyone.

South China Morning Post

A hugely enjoyable horror comedy that pays tribute to its predecessor but delivers something fresh out the box, too.

All of this sounds good to me! Hopefully, the AITH review of this CHILD'S PLAY remake will be up soon. Make sure to keep checking back here with us and we'll post it as soon as it arrives. Until then, make sure to let us know how excited you are for this remake below! The CHILD'S PLAY remake has been slapped with an R-rating for "bloody horror violence, and language throughout." The official synopsis reads:

A mother (Plaza) gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

The remake is directed by Lars Klevberg (POLAROID) from a screenplay written by KUNG FURY 2 writer Tyler Burton Smith with STEPHEN KING'S IT producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith producing. Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson executive produced. Aubrey Plaza stars as Andy's Mom, along with Brian Tyree Henry as Mike, Gabriel Bateman (LIGHTS OUT) as Andy, and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke co-star. CHILD'S PLAY slashes its tiny terrifying ass into your local multiplex TOMORROW.
