Ruben Fleischer's VENOM starring Tom Hardy in theaters this past October and since then, the comic book blockbuster has grossed more than $822 million in theaters worldwide. And today we have word via producer Amy Pascal that Tom Hardy will 100% return for VENOM 2, saying:

I can say that Tom Hardy will be back, magnificently playing that character as no one else can.

When asked why she thinks VENOM was such a hit, the producer says:

It's a couple of things. One of them is that Sony did a great job creating that franchise and giving it a life and giving it its own world. Then there's Tom Hardy. When you think of Venom, you'll never be able to think of anyone but Tom Hardy sitting in that bathtub of lobsters. And once you saw Tom Hardy do this character, that's all you needed to know.

She continues:

Tom Hardy's Venom was absolutely, bar none, unbelievable. He is so good. Nobody else could be that character.

The original film followed the adventures of 

Eddie Brock, a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancee. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

VENOM is directed by Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND) and features Tom Hardy (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD), Michelle Williams (SPECIES), Riz Ahmed (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY), Jenny Slate (HOTEL ARTEMIS), and Woody Harrelson (ZOMBIELAND, NATURAL BORN KILLERS). Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel wrote the script, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal produced.

It's rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for language, and is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
