Ari Aster’s Midsommar earns a hard R rating

The MPAA negotiations were coming down to the wire on HEREDITARY writer/director Ari Aster's new film MIDSOMMAR. Although MIDSOMMAR is set to reach theatres in just one week, on July 3rd, distributor A24 only reached an agreement with the MPAA for the film's rating last Friday.

A24 has announced that MIDSOMMAR officially earned a hard R rating for 

disturbing ritualistic violence and grisly images, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language.

That sounds like the makings of a good movie-watching experience.

Described as both an "apocalyptic breakup" movie and "Wizard of Oz for perverts", MIDSOMMAR delves into "Scandinavian folk horror" with a story that stars Florence Pugh and Jack Reynor as 

a couple that travels to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe are also in the cast.

MIDSOMMAR is bringing all of its violence, grisly images, nudity, sexual content, drug use, and language to the big screen next Wednesday.
