Last year, the revived Fangoria brought us a reboot of Full Moon's PUPPET MASTER franchise with their film PUPPET MASTER: THE LITTLEST REICH. Now Fangoria and Full Moon are teaming up again for a remake of the 1995 Full Moon release CASTLE FREAK, which was directed by Stuart Gordon and inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft story The Outsider.

Special effects artist Tate Steinsiek will be making his feature directorial debut with the remake, which is scheduled to begin filming in Albania next month.

With the production start date that close, Steinsiek has of course already assembled his cast. It has been announced that the film will star newcomer Clair Catherine, along with Jake Horowitz, Chris Galust, Emily Sweet, Elisa Pratt, Omar Brunson, and Kika Magalhães.

I'll be honest, Magalhães is the only one of those actors I know by name, because she was the star of the disturbing and disgusting film THE EYES OF MY MOTHER.

Original CASTLE FREAK co-star Barbara Crampton is producing the new film with Dallas Sonnier, Amanda Presmyk, Justin Martell, Matt Manjourides, and Full Moon founder Charles Band. David Gilbery and Charles Dorfman serve as executive producers for financier Media Finance Capital.

Crampton has said this film is a "reimagining", as they don't want to just tell the same story over again. The desire to do something different is clear in the synopsis, which reveals that the script written by Kathy Charles doesn't center on, as the original did, a troubled married couple struggling to recover from a tragic incident that killed one of their children and left their daughter blind. This time the story follows

recently-blinded Rebecca, her boyfriend John, and their friends as they travel to Albania to manage Rebecca’s sudden inheritance of a castle from her long-lost-mother. Once there, they learn that Rebecca’s family harbored dark secrets with potentially cosmic implications. As mysterious happenings and horrific murders begin to occur, Rebecca must unravel her family’s own mysterious history before she too falls prey to… the Castle Freak.

There are similarities in the set-up, but it sounds like the characters are going to be quite different.

Fabio Frizzi has already been hired to compose the film's score.
