Andy Muschietti reveals It: Chapter Two has 165 minute running time

The two parts of the 1990 mini-series adaptation of Stephen King's epic novel IT add up to a 187 minute running time, but when the two parts of director Andy Muschietti's theatrical feature adaptation are put together, they'll add up to a much longer running time.

Muschietti's first IT was 135 minutes long. Now the director has revealed that the upcoming IT: CHAPTER TWO has ended up with a 165 minute running time. So anyone who watches these movies back-to-back will have to set aside 300 minutes to do so. That's 5 hours of IT action.

Muschietti told Digital Spy and other outlets that, 

A movie is very different when you're writing the script and you're building a story compared to what the final product is. At the beginning, when you're writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story. However, when you have the movie finally edited and it's 4 hours long, you realize that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact. You cannot deliver a 4-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable – no matter what they see – but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good. Nobody who's seen the movie has had any complaint."

Producer Barbara Muschietti promised that there will be a director's cut of IT: CHAPTER TWO released down the line because there were "some amazing scenes that didn't make it into the movie".

Written by Gary Dauberman, IT: CHAPTER TWO has the following synopsis: 

Twenty-seven years after the horrific events of the summer of 1989, It returns. The Losers' Club fulfills their promises and returns to Derry to put an end to the shape-shifting beast once and for all.

James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone, and Andy Bean play the adult versions of the Losers Club. Jaeden Martell, Wyatt Oleff, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Chosen Jacobs, and Jack Dylan Grazer are back as the child versions of the characters. Bill Skarsgård is also back as the evil clown Pennywise.

Barbara Muschietti produced IT: CHAPTER TWO with Dan Lin and Roy Lee. Marty Ewing, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg serve as executive producers.

The 165 minute long film is set to reach theatres on September 6th.
