Greg Nicotero brings a Creepshow maze to Halloween Horror Nights

I've never been to Hollywood and don't have plans to go there any time soon, but for the next couple months I'll be wishing I could make a trip out there to attend the Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Hollywood. Especially since it has been announced that special effects artist Greg Nicotero, who serves as creative supervisor on Shudder's upcoming Creepshow anthology series, has crafted a Creepshow "haunted maze" for the event.

Nicotero had this to say about the maze: 

I’ve partnered with Universal Studios Hollywood and Halloween Horror Nights for years and it’s a thrill to bring ‘Creepshow’ to life for the fans as part of this year’s iconic event. I consider myself honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside George Romero and many other groundbreaking filmmakers who have inspired me. So to be able to create a television show based on the Creepshow movie and then see it come to life as a Halloween Horror Nights maze is a great way to pay tribute to this legendary filmmaker and introduce this incredible anthology series to fans old and new."

A collaboration between George A. Romero and Stephen King, the original CREEPSHOW film told five separate tales of horror. The maze is similarly divided into five segments, three of them inspired by stories from the film and two of them inspired by stories that we'll see in the Shudder series. 

The stories that will be represented in the maze are: 

Father’s Day: A cruel, wealthy patriarch murdered by his long-suffering daughter rises from the grave as a maggot-infested corpse to take revenge on his inheritors.

The Crate: An unlucky janitor at a small East Coast college finds a long-forgotten shipping crate containing a ravenous beast that’s been hibernating for over a hundred years.

They’re Creeping Up On You: An eccentric billionaire in a hermetically-sealed “germ proof” Manhattan penthouse apartment experiences a terrifying pest problem during a citywide blackout.

Gray Matter: An alcoholic factory worker unknowingly ingests a strange mutagen in his beer that unleashes an alien fungus that takes over his rundown apartment and his entire body.

Bad Wolf Down: A decimated American army platoon overwhelmed by the German army during World War II unexpectedly turns into a pack of werewolves during a full moon.

This year's Halloween Horror Nights will run on select nights from September 13 through November 3 at Universal Studios Hollywood. In addition to the Creepshow maze, there will also be mazes inspired by Stranger Things, GHOSTBUSTERS, KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, and FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN.

The Creepshow series will make its Shudder debut on September 26th. The first season of the show will consist of six episodes, but each episode is divided into two segments so we'll actually be getting twelve new horror stories from it.
