While the ongoing court battle between original FRIDAY THE 13TH producer/director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller has forced the team behind Friday the 13th: The Game to stop developing any further content for the game (while it's also keeping us from getting any new FRIDAY THE 13TH movies and is now affecting the toy licenses as well), the game is still highly entertaining as it is – and now it's available to a whole new group of gamers.
Previously available for PlayStation 4 (you can pick up a copy HERE), Xbox One (buy it HERE), and PC through Steam, Friday the 13th: The Game has now been released for the Nintendo Switch.
Grisly survival horror game Friday the 13th: The Game stalked its way into North American retail stores, now available courtesy of distributor Nighthawk Interactive. Publisher Gun Media and developer Black Tower Studios are bringing the famed franchise to the Nintendo Switch system for the first time with the Ultimate Slasher Edition, featuring the complete original game and all previously released downloadable content* (DLC) – plus the bonus of an 11”x17” limited-edition poster. Physical Nintendo Switch copies are available now through major retailers for $39.99.
Friday the 13th: The Game is a faithful tribute to the original movie franchise with iconic film locations and character models painstakingly recreated down to the bloody details. The gory game pits eight players against each other, either as one of seven teen counselors, or as iconic killer Jason Voorhees himself. Counselors must search for the tools to survive, escape or even try to take down the infamous murder machine, while Jason must rely on his array of abilities to track, hunt and slaughter his prey. The teens contend with time itself, too, as Jason not only feeds off the fear of his victims, but also becomes stronger as the night progresses.
Friday the 13th: The Game Ultimate Slasher Edition for the Nintendo Switch offers a unique experience and includes:
All Previously Released Content – Includes all 10 single-player challenges, every map, character, counselor outfit, Jason skin, additional kills for Jason, and the complete Virtual Cabin experience – plus an exclusive limited edition 11×17 poster.
Eight-Person Multiplayer and Single Player Modes – On maps spanning multiple iconic locations from the movie franchise, players match up online as either Jason Voorhees or a Camp Counselor trying to survive the night. Players seeking lower pressure slasher fun can take the fight offline in matches with AI bots.
Killer Variety – Players don the mask of their favorite incarnations of Jason Voorhees as depicted in films two through nine. Each Jason is hand-crafted with specific strengths, weaknesses, and exclusive brutal kills. The retail edition offers even more brutal execution options, with the Pick Axe, Pig Splitter and Machete Kill Packs.
Character Customization – As players level up, they unlock new playable Counselor and Jason models, new kills for Jason, game-changing perks that help Camp Counselors survive the night, emotes for self-expression, and various regalia appropriate for a funeral … or seven.
Franchise Authenticity – The game draws expertise from horror icons including Sean S. Cunningham (director/creator of Friday the 13th), Tom Savini (FX legend and effects director of Friday the 13th), composer Harry Manfredini (various compositions from the franchise) and Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees actor; Part 7, 8 and 9).
Friday the 13th: The Game Ultimate Slasher Edition is available now at North American retailers for Nintendo Switch, priced at $39.99. The game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.
Copies of the Nintendo Switch edition of the game can also be purchased through Amazon.
If you're a fan of the FRIDAY THE 13TH franchise, I highly recommend giving the game a try. Although it has some bugs and glitches, and it is sad that we won't be getting any more content, I can't imagine a more fitting game being made for my favorite horror series.
