Director Neil Marshall's HELLBOY reboot starring David Harbour punched its ungodly way onto digital and Blu-ray/DVD last month (snag it HERE). And today we're hearing from Harbour himself that – as the final moments of the first film teased – the planned HELLBOY 2 would have introduced a "vastly different" and "thug-like" Abe Sapien.
Specifically, Harbour reveals:
The unfortunate thing is that the movie did not do very well and if it had, we would have explored Abe Sapien again. There were actually a lot of creatures coming in potential sequels. For this one, we get a glimpse at him at the very end with that teaser with his hand but if we had done the entire character, first of all, it would be vastly different from the other films, more thug-like, and we wouldn't have even have gone with that hand you see at the end of the film. We would have designed something from scratch. That's one of the ones that, because I have an affection for fish people and fish characters, would have been really fun to work on but alas, no.
And all of this is just too damn bad. I'd have liked to see the crazy-ass minds behind the recent reboot give us a Tom Hardy in BRONSON-style Abe Sapien. Sigh. Meanwhile, this version of the classic comic book character has been rated R for "strong bloody violence and gore throughout and language" and is written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola. This one finds Hellboy:
along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.
Church and Harbour's co-stars include Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue, Queen of Blood, Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as his love interest Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio (who can turn into a jaguar), Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, and Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin. HELLBOY is now available on Blu-ray. Snag a copy HERE
