Horror fans have seen a lot of "final" entries in franchises over the years. FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER. JASON GOES TO HELL: THE FINAL FRIDAY. FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE. SAW: THE FINAL CHAPTER. PUPPET MASTER 5: THE FINAL CHAPTER. None of these were actually the last movies in those series. So when it was announced that Blumhouse is working on two back-to-back HALLOWEEN sequels – HALLOWEEN KILLS and HALLOWEEN ENDS – I don't think anyone really believed that HALLOWEEN ENDS is going to be the end of the HALLOWEEN franchise.
John Carpenter certainly doesn't believe it. The director/co-writer/composer of the original HALLOWEEN returned to executive produce and compose (with Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies) the score for HALLOWEEN 2018, and he'll be executive producing and composing the scores for HALLOWEEN KILLS and HALLOWEEN ENDS as well. During an appearance at the Keystone Comic Con in Philadelphia, Carpenter was asked if HALLOWEEN ENDS will truly be the end. He replied:
As long as there's money in this, I wouldn’t count on an ending."
So ENDS may not be the end, but Carpenter does trust that these sequels are going to be worth our time, especially since they're from the same creative team as HALLOWEEN 2018, which he was obviously a fan of.
I loved what the director, David Gordon Green, did. I thought he did a great job, and it was terrific … [Jamie Lee Curtis] was fabulous, just fabulous. She’s still great … Go see the next ‘Halloween’ movies, they’ll be good!"
Jason Blum, Bill Block, and Malek Akkad will be producing HALLOWEEN KILLS and HALLOWEEN ENDS, with Carpenter, David Gordon Green, Danny McBride, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Cooper Samuelson executive producing.
Curtis will be starring in the new films, with HALLOWEEN '18 co-stars Judy Greer and Andi Matichak expected to return. Original Michael Myers performer Nick Castle has confirmed that he's coming back, and there's a rumor that the original film's Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett) will be in there as well.
David Gordon Green will be directing both of the new sequels.
Written by Green, McBride, and Scott Teems, HALLOWEEN KILLS begins filming next month for an October 16, 2020 release.
Once KILLS wraps, there will be a "short breather" before the filming of HALLOWEEN ENDS begins. Written by Green, McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier, that one is scheduled for an October 15, 2021 release.
