The Conjuring 3 will claim The Devil Made Me Do It next September

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have announced the title and release date for the next film in the CONJURING series: the film we had previously been referring to as THE CONJURING 3 will be sporting the title THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT when it reaches theatres on September 11, 2020.

Not only is this the third CONJURING film, it will also be the eighth installment in the Conjuring Universe franchise, following the two CONJURINGs, three ANNABELLE movies, THE NUN, and THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA. Oddly, the press release announcing the title and release date seems to overlook the fact that LA LLORONA was set in this cinematic universe.

That oversight is especially surprising given that LA LLORONA director Michael Chaves is also the director of THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT.

James Wan, who directed the previous two CONJURING movies, produced this one alongside Peter Safran and crafted the story with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who then wrote the screenplay. 

Starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, THE CONJURING: THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT will tell 

a chilling story of terror, murder and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense. 

Ruairi O'Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard are also in the cast.

Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Victoria Palmeri, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Michelle Morrissey serve as executive producers.

The Conjuring Universe has been hit and miss for me, but I love the first CONJURING and enjoyed THE CONJURING 2, so I hope THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT will be closer in quality to those films than to some of the more underwhelming entries in the franchise.
