Director Josh Boone's X-MEN horror movie THE NEW MUTANTS was supposed to hit the big screen back on April 13, 2018. Then it was delayed a whopping 10 months to February 22, 2019, before Fox eventually pushed the film back another six months to an August 2, 2019 release date.
Which has since come and gone…
But guess what? Today STRANGER THINGS star Charlie Heaton says the movie will be released next year. Sigh.
Heaton says:
… It's coming out next year, but we filmed it almost two years ago. It's the release [date] that's been moved quite a while … We shot this a while back and it's been pushed because Fox has now merged with Disney.
If the movie gets released, it will introduce
a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
THE NEW MUTANTS is helmed by Josh Boone (THE STAND) from a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee based on the comic series by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner produced the movie which stars Anya Taylor-Joy (THE WITCH), Maisie Williams (GAME OF THRONES), Charlie Heaton (STRANGER THINGS), Henry Zaga (THE STAND), and Alice Braga (CITY OF GOD).
Supposedly, Disney will release the film one day. But really, who knows? We'll pass along word once we hear anything. As always.
