Eric Heisserer's first feature film writing credit was on 2010's messy A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake, but that didn't do any lasting damage to his career. Over the last ten years he has written, among other things, the THING prequel, the awesome sequel FINAL DESTINATION 5, the hits LIGHTS OUT and BIRD BOX, and Denis Villeneuve's ARRIVAL, for which he earned an Oscar nomination. His upcoming projects include the Netflix series Shadow and Bone and the Vin Diesel vehicle BLOODSHOT. Heisserer is doing quite well for himself.
The screenwriter recently formed a production company called Chronology and signed a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures. Now it has been announced that Heisserer/Chronology will be producing an English language "re-imagining" of writer/director Hugo Cardozo's supernatural thriller MORGUE.
MORGUE was released in its home country of Paraguay last August and was the #1 film for two weeks. "Based partly on real-world events that led to paranormal reports", the film has the following synopsis:
After hitting someone with his car and fleeing the scene, a freelance security guard is assigned to cover a night shift at the hospital where he discovers the body of his victim in the morgue. As the night progresses, he is tormented by his guilt… or something more sinister.
Chronology didn't reveal who will be writing or directing the new version of MORGUE, but Cardozo will be executive producing the film with his producing partner Guido Rud.
I wasn't aware of MORGUE before this, but I'll be watching for a chance to check out the original film before the remake comes along.
