Tony winner Rachel Chavkin to direct remake of Spanish thriller Shrew’s Nest

Paramount is moving forward with a remake of the 2014 Spanish psychological thriller SHREW'S NEST (pictured above), and while we'll have to wait and see how the remake turns out, at least its announcement has pointed me in the direction of the original film, which looks to be quite interesting.

Directed by Juan Fernando Andrés and Esteban Roel from a screenplay Andrés wrote with Esteban Roel, SHREW'S NEST was produced by Álex de la Iglesia. Set in the 1950s, it centered on 

an agoraphobic woman who raises her younger sister in an apartment locked away from the world. But one day, a reckless young neighbor, Carlos, falls down the stairwell and drags himself to their door. Someone has entered the shrew’s nest, and it doesn’t look like he’s leaving. 

The film has been compared to the likes of MISERY and BLACK SWAN.

Paramount has chosen Rachel Chavkin to direct the remake. This will be her feature directorial debut, but she previously won a Tony for directing the Greek mythology stage musical Hadestown.

The screenplay for the remake has been written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, and that boosts my interest further because I loved the movie SUPER DARK TIMES, which they wrote. They also wrote the V/H/S spin-off SiREN.

The new version of SHREW'S NEST is being produced by Weed Road and the Gotham Group.
