Last week, Warner Bros. re-scheduled the release of ANNABELLE 3 from July 3rd to June 28th, giving the film a few extra days before SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME comes in to dominate the box office on July 5th. This shift put ANNABELLE 3 in direct competition with 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED, so we've been expecting to hear that the 47 METERS DOWN sequel was also going to find a new date for itself.
According to the folks at Bloody-Disgusting, that's exactly what has happened. Distributor Entertainment Studios has moved the release of 47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED from June 28th to August 16th. Which is still a good summer date for a shark thriller.
47 METERS DOWN writer/director Johannes Roberts and his co-writer Ernest Riera both came back to bring us more shark action with UNCAGED, which tells the story of
four teens diving in a ruined underwater city, who quickly find themselves in a watery hell as their adventure turns to horror when they learn they are not alone in the submerged caves. As they swim deeper into the claustrophobic labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.
The film stars Sistine Stallone, Corinne Foxx, John Corbett, Nia Long, Sophie Nelisse, Brianne Tju, Davi Santos, Kylin Rhambo, and Brec Bassinger.
47 METERS DOWN: UNCAGED was produced by James Harris, Mark Lane, and Robert Jones of The Fyzz, with Byron Allen, Carolyn Folks, and Jennifer Lucas serving as executive producers.
I'd see this movie regardless of its release date, but August sounds good to me and the delay might give the filmmakers some extra time to work on the shark effects.
