As we've been following the progress of the new SCREAM film that's in the works at Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures, it has always been said that the movie was aiming for a 2021 release. As it turns out, it's not actually going to reach theatres in 2021, it's going to be a couple weeks later: the official SCREAM Twitter account has revealed that the film is scheduled for a January 14, 2022 release.
SCREAM films are traditionally winter releases – the first two were released in December, the third in February. SCREAM 4 broke tradition with its April release.
David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who have been in every SCREAM movie, will be reprising their roles for the new sequel, and franchise heroine Neve Campbell has been in talks to return as well. Joining Arquette and Cox (and maybe Campbell) in the cast are Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.
READY OR NOT (watch it HERE) directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will be helming the film from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett had been hoping that READY OR NOT star Samara Weaving would be able to be in the SCREAM movie as well, but there were scheduling issues.
Project X Entertainment's Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak are producing the film, with Chad Villella serving as executive producer alongside Kevin Williamson.
The new SCREAM will be filming in Wilmington, North Carolina later this year.
