The trailers and TV spots for Michael Bay‘s PAIN AND GAIN have thus far looked exactly like the kind of film you’d expect from the director. Loud, kinetic, flashy, and chopped like a car commercial on, you guessed it, steroids. It has the signature humor that Bay typically injects in his films, which often feels like it shouldn’t be there (i.e. TRANSFORMERS). However, I think that PAIN AND GAIN may be the first time that Bay’s goofy humor will work out in his favor, as the three leads, Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie, all seem to be having a great time playing complete idiots.
Today, we have two new clips from the film, which highlight the above-mentioned comedic antics. The first is a candid talk with Anthony Mackie to his nurse, played by Rebel Wilson, about his steroid use. The second is a look at the precise planning and execution of the bodybuilding criminals. Or not.
Time for some penis magic:
For the first time since THE ISLAND, I’m actually looking forward to a Michael Bay film. Sure, I was excited to see the first TRANSFORMERS and enjoyed it for the most part, but the sequels soured it all for me. PAIN AND GAIN looks like a return to the fun and frenetic style that suits Bay best and I’m looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we still have to endure TRANSFORMERS 4 before he gets back to this type of work again.
PAIN AND GAIN pumps you up on April 26, 2013.
It’s tough being Michael Bay…
