As we reported last month, Netflix is building a franchise around director Zack Snyder's upcoming zombie film ARMY OF THE DEAD, which stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana De La Reguera, Huma Qureshi, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Hiroyuki Sanada, Nora Arnezeder, Rich Cetrone, Garret Dillahunt, Samantha Win, and Matthias Schweighöfer. The film takes place after
a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble: venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.
Schweighöfer is signed on to direct a live-action prequel that centers on his character Ludwig Dieter, and an animated series called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas is in the works that will serve as an "origin story" for
Scott (Bautista) and highlight his rescue crew’s efforts to protect all they love during the first phases of the mysterious zombie outbreak in Vegas.
Dave Bautista, Ana De La Reguera, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick, and Ella Purnell are all providing the voices of their ARMY OF THE DEAD characters for the anime, and now the names of eleven other cast members have been announced. Joining the returning cast are Joe Manganiello, Christian Slater, Harry Lennix, Ross Butler, Anya Chalotra, Vanessa Hudgens, Yetide Badaki, Christina Wren, Monica Barbaro, Jena Malone, and Nolan North.
Their character names are Rose, Torrance, Boorman, Chen, Lucilia, Willow, Queen Meeru, Nicole, Meagan, Zeta, and Clemenson, if that means anything to you at this point.
Jay Oliva serves as showrunner on the series and will be directing two episodes, as will Snyder. Meduzarts Animation Studio are handling the animation.
Snyder and Oliva are also producing the show with Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Shay Hatten.
ARMY OF THE DEAD is set to reach the Netflix streaming service sometime in 2021. Hopefully it will go over well, because there's a lot more ARMY action coming after that.
