For years, I would watch the Super Bowl simply to see the commercials and the TV spots for upcoming movies. Now it's been a few years since I actually sat through the big game, because why endure hours of football when you can just catch the good stuff on the internet? For example, here we have a couple of last night's highlights, the new TV spots that dropped for 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE and INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg and starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr., 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE is described as a "blood relative" to the 2008 creature feature CLOVERFIELD.
The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.
With a cast that includes Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, and William Fichtner, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE is director Roland Emmerich's "twenty years later" follow-up to his alien invasion blockbuster INDEPENDENCE DAY.
We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
10 CLOVERFIELD LANE hits theatres on March 11th. INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE follows on June 24th.
