Everyone’s favorite evil, sticky symbiote is apparently still on track for a solo adventure.
A big-screen VENOM flick was announced last year from Sony (where the character/superficially interesting suit was already assailed in SPIDER-MAN 3), and the slimy alien critter is still slinking forward. ZOMBIELAND writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been working on the script, and Wernick tells Sci-Fi Wire that they’ve done “two drafts of VENOM, and the studio has it, and they’re pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward.”
It’s likely that Sony will figure out some way to get the film rolling, since studios will be skittish about relinquishing Marvel properties in the wake of the Disney deal (gotta use it or lose it).
As previously rumored, the new Venom will presumably be a different character, with the symbiote clinging to a new host human — likely one with slightly more heroic tendencies than Eddie Brock. Still, Wernick drops a small hint that there could ultimately be a relationship between the proposed VENOM spinoff and SPIDEY 4, which is expected to shoot next year.
