The famed Middle Eastern swashbuckler known as SINBAD hasn’t seen easy sailing for a big-budget Hollywood production lately.
Keanu Reeves and director Rob Cohen (STEALTH, XXX) had plans for the scimitar-swinging adventurer, and then THE PACIFIER director Adam Shankman was going to take a stab at a new voyage. But the sailor seems stuck on dry land.
Until now, anyway — SINBAD: THE FIFTH VOYAGE appears to be a low-budget indie retro approach to the material (Dynamation!), with relative unknown (and possible Arnold Vosloo impersonator) Shahin Sean Solimon picking up the blade and hacking at stop-motion monsters. Patrick Stewart is also involved in some capacity (voiceover at the very least).
There doesn’t seem to be too much info out on the movie (aside from the Facebook presence), but here’s the brief synopsis: When the Sultan’s first born is taken by an evil sorcerer, Sinbad is tasked with traveling to a desert of magic and creatures to save her.
