The last time a hot young French actress play a French icon, Marion Cotillard won an Academy Award and I won an iPhone in the JoBlo.com staff Oscar Pool. Now another starlet de France is taking on a huge role, and it’s Audrey Tautou playing Coco Chanel in the movie COCO BEFORE CHANEL. For those who don’t already know, Coco Chanel is the founder of Chanel fashion house, and one of the most famous women of the twentieth century. As the title suggests, this film will follow a young Chanel, before the days of her fashion empire. Tautou failed to breakout Stateside the way I thought she would when THE DA VINCI CODE was released, but there’s not doubt she’s still number one in her native France.

Demi Moore and Shirley Maclaine are also rumoured to be playing versions of Chanel.
