Spider-Musical?

Stranger things have happened in the entertainment field than a SPIDER-MAN Broadway musical. Just not today.

But it’s true — after SPIDER-MAN 3 breaks every box office record in the universe, the webbed wonder will reportedly be swinging onto a stage in his hometown of Manhattan for a pop/rock Broadway production from stage-turned-feature (and back to stage) director Julie Taymor (TITUS, FRIDA). U2’s Bono and The Edge are providing the tunage, while Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton might get free tickets to see the show. If they’re lucky.

Characters included in the production are Peter Parker and his costumed alter-ego, publisher J. Jonah Jameson, villain Norman Osborn/Green Goblin, and (obviously taking some liberties with the material) a woman named Arachne who is “turned into a spider for her hubris and lack of respect for the gods”, which sounds bizarre but appropriately operatic.

In addition, a “Geek Chorus” (get it?? ahem) will “meet to ritualistically retell the greatest Spider-Man stories.” Hey, as long as they sing that catchy theme song from the cheesy old cartoon. Because otherwise, why bother with the whole thing?
