We
mentioned this news to you all "in passing" a
couple of weeks ago, mostly because we too weren’t sure about
what exactly it entailed and whether or not it was bullshit, but MGM
made it official today, hiring THE FOUNTAIN and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM
director Darren Aronofsky to direct a new installment for its
ROBOCOP franchise. Note the words new installment and not
necessarily a “remake”, "sequel" or "prequel". Writing the
project is David Self, the screenwriter of such films as 13 DAYS,
ROAD TO PERDITION and the upcoming WOLF MAN. I’m generally not hip
to anyone messing with classic films, but at least this is sounding
like these guys are gonna add a fresh perspective to the franchise,
and with Aronofsky behind the reigns, I’m actually pretty f*ckin’
stoked about it. The film is set for release sometime in 2010 and no
specific information was given about its plotline or possible
casting just yet. The original ROBOCOP is one of my favorite movies
of all-time and features a ton of quotable lines including "Dead
or alive, you’re coming with me", "Bitches leave!"
(classic), "I’d buy that for a dollar" and many
many others. Looking forward to following this one’s development.
What think you all?
Robocop is a go!
