The Mandalorian, the first of several live-action STAR WARS TV series set to debut on Disney+, is set "after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." Although production on The Mandalorian wrapped up last month, we still have very little official information on the series beyond that brief synopsis.

Along with Pedro Pascal, who plays the title role, The Mandalorian also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, and Werner Herzog. While little is known about the other characters filling out the series, you likely already guessed that Herzog would be playing a bad guy, something the director confirmed while speaking with IndieWire about his documentary MEETING GORBACHEV.

Now this is not a secret anymore, a small part, real small part, in The Mandalorian, the Star Wars sequel or whatever you call it. I like to do it because I know I'??m good on screen, but only if I have to play a real villain.

It's a shame that Werner Herzog described the role as a "real small," as I was hoping that we'd see a little more of him throughout the series. Written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, the episodes of the first season of The Mandalorian will be directed by Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa, and Taika Waititi, who may also be voicing IG-88. We'll soon be learning more about the perilous world of The Mandalorian as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will be taking part in a special panel discussion on April 14th during Star Wars Celebration. We'll be sure to bring you all the details of whatever is revealed there.
