Watch the Guillermo Del Toro directed opening credits for The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XXIV

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Ah, THE SIMPSONS Halloween episode, a time honored tradition for over two decades. Even though the baseball playoffs force the special to be aired weeks before or after Halloween, the show still manages to give us some gory and hilarious moments year after year. This year they have cooked up something special by having Guillermo Del Toro come in to direct the opening titles to the special and boy is it awesome.

Entertainment Weekly premiered the almost three minute sequence which is crammed full with references to Del Toro’s films including HELLBOY, BLADE II, and PAN’S LABYRINTH. I especially like seeing the PACIFIC RIM homage here. There are also a couple of cameos from Stephen King and Alfred Hitchcock, making this one of the better Halloween sequences we have seen on the show in quite some time.

Guillermo Del Toro has had a good deal of involvement in animation over the last few years. He served as a creative consultant for the Dreamworks films MEGAMIND, KUNG FU PANDA 2, PUSS IN BOOTS, and RISE OF THE GUARDIANS. He has other animated projects lined up including a take on PINOCCHIO and possibly a segment for a HEAVY METAL sequel.

THE SIMPSONS TREEHOUSE OF HORROR XIV airs Sunday, October 5th on FOX.
