Animals don’t like going to the vet any more than humans like going to the doctor or dentist, but hey, it’s gotta get done. Still, that doesn’t mean the animals have to be excited about it, and in the first trailer for THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 – the sequel to the absurdly successful 2016 hits from Illumination – our leading dog Max (Patton Oswalt) is in for one ruff day at the vet. The trailer starts by teasing this is “The Max Trailer,” meaning we will get more small trailers focused on some of the other animals as the days and weeks go on. We get our first listen to Oswalt as the dog Max here, taking over for Louis C.K. from the first movie after he was let go pertaining to reasons you should know about by now. Though this was a very small glimpse at the sequel, I found myself enjoying it more than the entirety of the first movie. How awesome would this movie be if it was just set in the waiting room of a vet, wherein all the animals are all different kinds of crazy?
Oswalt is but one of many voices in this movie, along with the returning voices of Kevin Hart, Jenny Slate, Eric Stonestreet, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Dana Carvey, Hannibal Burress, and Bobby Moynihan. Then there are some other new voices, including Tiffany Haddish, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes and Harrison Ford who will no doubt be voicing an old, curmudgeonly – I wanna say – pet parrot.
