The Night Manager’s Susanne Bier to direct Nicole Kidman’s new HBO series

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Following the success of Big Little Lies, Nicole Kidman elected to stay in the HBO family as she signed on to star in The Undoing, a limited-series based upon the novel "You Should Have Known" by Jean Hanff Korelitz. Big Little Lies creator/writer David E. Kelley will pen the new series and it was announced today that Susanne Bier will be directing all six episodes of The Undoing. She will also serve as an executive producer alongside Kidman and Kelly.

Susanne Bier is no stranger to television, as she also directed every episode of AMC's The Night Manager and even won a much deserved Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing. The Undoing will find Kidman starring as Grace Sachs, a successful therapist who is on the brink of publishing her first book when disaster strikes and her perfect life is turned upside down. As for those disasters which will befall Grace Sachs, well, they involve "a violent death, a missing husband, and, in the place of a man Grace thought she knew, only a chain of terrible revelations. Left behind in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster, and horrified by the ways in which she has failed to heed her own advice, Grace must dismantle one life and create another for her child and herself." Given the talent involved, I'm officially excited. "David has created another propulsive series with a fascinating, complicated female role at its center," said Nicole Kidman. "I’m excited and honored to continue collaborating with HBO and David E Kelley." To which Kelley added, "I loved this book. A character driven psychological thriller, I’m excited about the adaptation and thrilled to be able to do it with Nicole and HBO."

Before Susanne Bier gets to work on The Undoing, our next glimpse at her work will be BIRD BOX, a horror film starring Sandra Bullock as Malorie, a woman in a post-apocalyptic world who must flee with her two children to the only place which offers sanctuary, but in order to survive, they'll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded. BIRD BOX will be released on Netflix on November 12th.
