The horror! Olivia Wilde using CGI nipples in The Change-Up

This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about CGI nudity in films, as it was brought up when Jessica Alba employed the technique in MACHETE where she apparently would rather shower in her underwear.

Now it’s being used by another hot actress and I guess I still don’t quite understand the concept. Here’s what Olivia Wilde had to say about her strange use of CGI in THE CHANGE-UP on Jimmy Kimmel.

The former OC grad preserved her modesty in a scene with Ryan Reynolds using pasties but after filming wrapped, producers noticed that Wilde’s pasties were clearly visible and that “they had no choice but to use computer-generated imagery to make the sex scene seem as real as possible.”

Wilde says: “I wasn’t actually naked but now appear to be naked because… in that scene Ryan Reynolds is supposed to be covering them (with his body) and he moved and so the pasties were in the movie and so they had to paint in nipples using CGI. And I got to approve the nipples! They sent me an email saying, ‘Please review nipple cover shot one through seven and decide which one is most like the original.’ I don’t know what he (producer) was using as source material… but I think it’s pretty close.”

Two things: A) Wilde has already appeared topless in ALPHA DOG, so it would seem strange to revert here. Is she shy in front of Ryan Reynolds in particular?

B) I guess I don’t quite get the distinction between riding an actor in a sex scene with tiny stickers on your nipples, and just going for the real thing. Is it really that much more embarrassing? Like I’m trying to imagine being a male actor in a movie and walking around with a tiny sock on your dick for a nude scene, then having them CGI out the sock, and put a real dick there. Like, what? Why?

But the fact is, these actresses can do what they want as we don’t have the “right” to see them naked, despite what we drooling males may think. If it makes the more comfortable on set, I guess it’s their prerogative. But what happens when they stop telling us about it? Will all movie nudity be CGI someday?
