Despite Kevin Smith's renewed interest in filmmaking, TUSK wasn't quite the hit he was expecting it to be. Regardless, he's still gung ho about continuing what he's dubbed his True North Trilogy with the second installment, YOGA HOSERS. HOSERS will follow the story of two teenage girls (Harley Quinn Smith and Lily-Rose Depp respectively) who work at a convenient store, Eh-2-Zed (briefly featured in TUSK). An ancient evil forces the two yoga nuts to partner with the legendary Guy Lapointe (Johnny Depp) in order to stop it. Presumably yoga will be the key here. No less strange than the synopsis for TUSK, and now the first official promotional still has been released featuring Smith and Depp.

Kevin Smith on Harley and Lily's acting performances:

Their onscreen chemistry comes courtesy of a lifelong friendship: Harley and Lily have known each other since first grade. Acting is a job of making choices, and Harley and Lily were making their own character and delivery choices from day one on the flick. At one point, I pulled them both aside to ask, 'You are making excellent choices without me saying anything. What adult is telling you to do these things behind my back?' The girls said they'd simply learned to act from watching movies and TV shows their whole lives. But in their case, acting and goofing around is in their blood. And it was thrilling to watch them both take their first steps in what's bound to be a lifelong passion for performance.

There's no arguing that Kevin Smith's latter output has kept fans on the fence (or pushed them off), so I'll be curious to see if the rest of his True North Trilogy garners any sort of a following. He's definitely attempting something different here, and the fact that both him and Johnny Depp are enthusiastic about these projects only add fuel to the curiosity fire. As long as Smith is happy, I say keep doing what you're doing. You never know what may come out of the creative process.

YOGA HOSERS is currently scheduled to hit theaters June 1, 2015.
