While 2015 is likely to feel like the longest year on record for a lot of movie fans awaiting the return of STAR WARS, Disney’s animated series Star Wars Rebels has more than a few touches of nostalgia to help with the anticipation. Rebels takes place a few years before Episode IV and from the handful of episodes I've watched so far, is filled with memorable characters and mature storytelling. On top of that, the mid-season premiere will have a returning voice, one of the most recognizable in the galaxy I imagine.
[minor spoilers ahead]
In this clip from the Star Wars Rebels episode “Path of the Jedi,” while meditating inside an ancient Jedi temple Kanan receives a message from a former master he'd believed long dead.
It's a welcome addition to the cast, and having Frank Oz return to voice Yoda is just the ultimate necessity for all the fans. He is the original voice (and the original puppeteer) follows fellow Star Wars film alums Anthony Daniels and James Earl Jones, who have voiced their respective characters on Rebels as well. For those of you who have yet to tune into the series, it might be good to know that the show doesn’t rely too much on the original trilogy. Here we simply hear Yoda communicate from an unknown distance and location, a curious addition to the mythology but nothing too drastic either.
Star Wars Rebels: “Path of the Jedi” airs Monday, January 5th at 9pm ET/PT on Disney XD.
Here is a bonus clip from the episode where master and padawan part ways as Ezra ventures off on a voyage of discovery inside the ancient Jedi temple hidden on his home planet of Lothal.
