Richard Linklater might shoot his spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused this fall

Quick question: have you ever heard anyone say they didn’t like DAZED AND CONFUSED? While writing this article I tried to remember if I’ve ever read a comment on any movie site that had someone posting negatively about the film (and not just some troll saying they hate the movie because they want to start shit) and to be honest I can’t think of one. There are plenty of coming of age movies but few can top the stellar cast and soundtrack of DAZED AND CONFUSED.

Director Richard Linklater has mentioned before that he would be interesting in directing a semi-sequel to DAZED AND CONFUSED (at one point it was rumored to be called THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT) and in a Q&A on Reddit Linklater said that filming on the sequel could start before the end of this year:

Hoping to make it this fall, actually. A college comedy. I feel like mixing it up with a big ensemble.

Unfortunately Richard Linklater doesn’t expand on those comments in the rest of the Q&A. It’s doubtful that most (if any) of the cast from DAZED AND CONFUSED will appear in the sequel but I guess there’s always a chance that a familiar face (or name perhaps?) could pop up.

If Richard Linklater wasn’t attached to the sequel I would completely be against it. Going from a high school setting to college is probably the most natural thing to do for the new movie and where DAZED AND CONFUSED had the end of high school maybe this semi-sequel will be set at the beginning of college, especially if they might be filming in the fall. With the BEFORE films Linklater has proven (to me anyways) that he can make some damn good sequels even if there is a lengthy break between movies and I am very interested in hearing more about the new movie.
