Production wraps on Pirates of the Caribbean 5

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It’s been 4 years since the last entry into the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN saga, and like it or not, the 5th installment is one step closer to theaters. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES has just wrapped production according to actor Adam Brown. You may know him as Ori from Peter Jackson‘s THE HOBBIT trilogy, and he just posted the following on Twitter signaling the end of principal photography for PIRATES.

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES finds Johnny Depp‘s Captain Jack Sparrow running into his old nemesis, Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), whose team of ghost pirates have escaped from the Devil’s Triangle and are determined to kill every pirate at sea. This, in turn, leads Sparrow into seeking out the Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas. Something something something rock star pirate ensues…

I’ve never been a big fan of THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN series, but I do think there’s some great potential there. Johnny Depp crafted one hell of a character in Jack Sparrow, but he doesn’t work as the main character, and most everyone else has failed to measure up. The fact that this will be directed by Espen Sandberg & Joachim Ronning (KON-TIKI) gives me some hope, but I’m not holding my breath..

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES will open in theaters on July 7, 2017.
