Series creator Nic Pizzolatto crafted a hell of a first season for his crime series True Detective and staying true to his word, season 2 will present an entirely different story and feel. This time around we traverse through the landscapes of California along with three law-enforcement officers in Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, and a career criminal in Vince Vaughn. Pizzolatto spoke up a bit regarding this second season as far as what we can expect and how it will differ from season 1. We also have some brand new posters showing off the lead characters to boot.
Nic Pizzolatto regarding any connections between the first and second seasons:
There’s no relationship between the stories or characters, which was the result of fully committing to something new, but I do think that the seasons have a deep, close bond in sensibility and vision, a similar soul, though this is a more complex world and field of characters.
On applying a more linear structure to season 2:
We were conscious of not wanting to repeat ourselves or remake the same album in a different setting, but I try to be open to whatever structure the story and characters suggest, so I never drew a line through those things. As the characters multiplied and their individual and group complications grew, a more integrated and linear structure worked best. And there was the conviction that if we were to do something entirely new, then we shouldn’t lean on past conceits, but really build from scratch.
Season 2 of True Detective starts on HBO on June 21, 2015.
