Morena Baccarin lands female lead in Deadpool opposite Ryan Reynolds

Another day, another casting announcement for Tim Miller's DEADPOOL. After learning that T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, and Gina Carano had joined the cast, we now have the female lead set. Whittled down from a short list of actresses, FIREFLY veteran Morena Baccarin has landed the role of Wade Wilson's love interest.

Baccarin is best known for her work on that Joss Whedon series and it's big screen follow-up, SERENITY, but she has also appeared on the Showtime series HOMELAND and the short-lived ABC reboot of V. She currently has recurring roles as Harrison Wells' computer Gideon on THE FLASH and as Dr. Leslie Thompkins on FOX's GOTHAM as well as a role in Paul Feig's upcoming SPY with Melissa McCarthy. It is currently unknown if Baccarin will be playing an existing character from the comic book world of DEADPOOL or an original creation for the film.

DEADPOOL has definitely been chugging along as the Ryan Reynolds film gears up to start production. While we still do not have plot details or specific characters outside of Gina Carano playing Angel Dust and a recast version of Colossus, everything on the creative side seems to be leaning towards a faithful adaptation of the Merc with the Mouth from writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Hopefully the footage follows suit when we finally see it.

DEADPOOL hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
