Mickey Rourke trashes two of his own upcoming films

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Mickey Rourke has had a strange career trajectory as of late, going from Oscar nominee for THE WRESTLER to bargain bin movie star in a relatively short amount of time.

The actor recently chatted openly and honestly with Vulture about his upcoming films, 13, where he co-stars with 50 Cent, and PASSION PLAY, with Bill Murray and Megan Fox. Neither look terribly good, but Rourke gives it to us straight about how bad they really are in this very terse interview.

You guys (50 Cent) are in a movie together, right?

A really bad movie, yeah.

What?! Is it out?

No, it’s so bad it can’t get out.

Tell me why you made it.

For the money.

But you think the movie’s bad.

Terrible.

Why?

You have to watch it.

What about your movie with Megan Fox and Bill Murray?

Terrible. Another terrible movie. But, you know, in your career and all the movies you make, you’re going to make dozens of terrible ones.

You called Megan Fox, like, one of the best actresses of all time.

That I worked with [smirk].

That movie’s getting limited release.

That’s because it’s not very good.

I don’t think every actor will have to make “dozens” of terrible movies, as you are allowed to be selective with roles if you so choose, but Rourke doesn’t really seem to give a shit either way. I can’t imagine those he worked with will take to kindly to his sentiments here, but it’s nice to see a Hollywood star with no bullshit filter.

Was Rourke out of line to trash his own movies like this?
