Michael B. Jordan says The Fantastic Four costumes are modern and not cheesy

The Fantastic Four Banner 2015 Josh Trank Michael B Jordan

There are two types of people out there when it comes to Josh Trank‘s upcoming THE FANTASTIC FOUR: those who think it is going to be a massive disaster and those who are waiting to see some footage. Production has already wrapped on the movie based on the Marvel Comics super squad but we have seen virtually nothing in the way of production art or set photos. All we have to go on is the word of producer Simon Kinberg and cast-members like Kate Mara and Miles Teller who have said THE FANTASTIC FOUR will both be a new take on the characters and not based on a comic book while also taking a more realistic and grounded approach to the origin story.

Michael B. Jordan, who takes over from Chris Evans as The Human Torch/Johnny Storm, has also been the subject of controversy from those who dislike the change in race for his character. Jordan was recently interviewed by Wonderwall and was asked what it was like wearing the superhero costume.

“How did I feel about wearing spandex?” he responded, “The costume part wasn’t that bad. I think we did a really good job at making it modern, new, fresh without going to the cheesy superhero outfits. We didn’t take the easy way out at all. So I didn’t mind it so much.”

Every superhero movie in recent years has featured a revamped look for the costumed heroes and almost none involve spandex. The original pair of FANTASTIC FOUR films did use skin-tight blue uniforms, but they looked pretty good in my opinion. What this new take could be is a complete unknown, but for some of you this may be just another tidbit that sours you on the reboot of THE FANTASTIC FOUR.

The few things we have seen including potential shots of The Thing and Doctor Doom have not inspired much confidence in fans, so mere words may not do much either. We will all have to wait until we see a trailer before we judge.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR hits theaters on August 7, 2015.
