Max Greenfield and Patton Oswalt join the Veronica Mars revival

One of the latest TV shows of yesteryear to board the revival train is Veronica Mars, the mystery series which starred Kristen Bell as the titular character, a student who moonlighted as a private investigator under the tutelage of her detective father. After three seasons (and a movie), Veronica Mars is set to make a return next year for an eight-episode limited-series on Hulu, and it will be bringing several members of the original cast along with it.

Max Greenfield (New Girl) played the recurring role of Sheriff's Deputy Lee D'Amato in the first three seasons of Veronica Mars as well as the movie, and it seems that he's signed up for the revival as well, joining fellow original cast-members Kristen Bell, Enrico Colantoni, Ryan Hansen, and Jason Dohring. Patton Oswalt (Happy!) has also joined the cast for the recurring role of Penn Epner, who is "on the wrong side of 40 for 'best pizza delivery guy in Neptune' to be his claim to fame, but the dude won’t shut up about it. He barely shuts up at all. Pizza delivery is his job, but his passion is 'true crime.' He is a frequent poster on unsolved murder websites. Penn is affable and a bit hapless, and he’s going to milk his 15 minutes for all they’re worth." Bell has teased that the revival is going to strike a different tone than the original series, telling Entertainment Weekly in September that, "It’s gonna be a much darker world, it’s going to be a bigger world, it’s definitely not what we did on UPN or The CW, so I want to brace fans for that, that it’s going to be darker and bigger and more cinematic, a little bit different." Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica (Bell) is drawn into an epic mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.

The Veronica Mars revival series is set to premiere on Hulu in 2019.
