Matthew Vaughn returns to direct next Kingsman for a November 2019 release

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We knew that a third installment of Matthew Vaughn's KINGSMAN franchise was on the way, but it seems that it will be here a little sooner than we thought. While it was expected that the third film would begin filming early next year for a 2020 release, Exhibitor Relations revealed on Twitter that 20th Century Fox has given the film a November 8, 2019 release. Just a year and change away. They also added that Matthew Vaughn will naturally return to write and direct the film.

That date will find KINGSMAN 3 opening a week after the release of WONDER WOMAN 1984 and on the same day as SONIC THE HEDGEHOG and MIDWAY, Roland Emmerich's World War II drama. The as-yet-untitled TERMINATOR film from Tim Miller will be opening a week later. It's also interesting to note BOND 25 was previously slated to open on November 8, 2019 as well, but was pushed back to February 14, 2020 when Cary Fukunaga recently signed on to direct. Looks like we'll be getting a helping of explosive spy action after all.

Although KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE walked away with a nearly identical box-office compared to THE SECRET SERVICE, reviews weren't quite as kind to the follow-up, but I still had a lot of fun with the film and am interested to see just how Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman plan on bringing the trilogy to a close. Vaughn has previously said that the third film would be "the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship," but that it will be far from the end of the KINGSMAN franchise. Vaughn said earlier this year that in addition to KINGSMAN 3, there will also be a spin-off titled KINGSMAN: THE GREAT GAME which will serve as a prequel exploring just how the spy organization began in the early 1900s. It's been said that THE GREAT GAME and KINGSMAN 3 would shot back-to-back, but it's not clear if that's still the plan. There's also been talk of a eight-hour KINGSMAN TV series as well as another spin-off movie which would follow the Statesman, the Kingsman's American allies who were introduced in the second film. So, get ready for more KINGSMAN than you know what to do with.
