Marvel confirms Phase Three films will include Ant-Man and Doctor Strange

We did not get any confirmation of what would constitute Marvel’s Phase Two films until last year’s Comic Con. The big surprise at that time was GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY which was then followed by the official confirmation that we would be getting Edgar Wright‘s long developed ANT-MAN movie. While we knew ANT-MAN would be bowing on November 6, 2015. after THE AVENGERS 2, it was not until now that we heard it officially referred to as part of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking to MTV, Marvel president Kevin Feige said “‘ANT-MAN is definitely part of Phase Three. Like IRON MAN 3, it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we’re making the movie.”

Feige stated that ANT-MAN will exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe but will be coming from the new perspective of Wright and Joe Cornish. Feige specifically referred to it as “a different corner”. So, what other unique heroes may we be getting in Phase Three? Feige named only one by name.

While Feige says the groundwork for Phase Three will be planted in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, and THE AVENGERS 2, the only other hero aside from ANT-MAN he named was Doctor Strange.

“‘Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them,” he confirmed. “He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.”

While rumors of a DOCTOR STRANGE movie have been around for years, this is exciting news to know we can expect it to be a reality in 2016 or 2017.
