Marriage Story trailer: Driver, Johansson lead acclaimed Oscar contender

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Noah Baumbach’s latest film, MARRIAGE STORY, came in hot at both the Venice Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival and was met with a flurry of critical acclaim. Hailed as one of the best of the year so far, the movie has secured a place as one of the top Oscar contenders, poising stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver as almost surefire nominees. Now Netflix has dropped the first official trailer for the movie, and in a few short minutes, you get a glimpse at the humor and heartbreak of Baumbach’s work and the incredible performances of the two in the starring roles.

Based on the trailer alone you can see why people are raving about this movie so passionately. Both Driver and Johansson look astounding in the roles, and we’re shown a perfect blend of the funnier, more awkward bits alongside some gut-punching shots and bits of dialogue. Much like THE IRISHMAN, Netflix will be pushing the movie hard come awards season, and the odds are high that both movies will secure nominations for the top prize – making Netflix a force to be reckoned with on the awards circuit.

Our own Chris Bumbray got to see the movie while at TIFF, and in his 9/10 review wrote about the two stars, “It’s unlikely we’ll be able to honestly say that we’ve seen a better-acted movie this year by the time 2019 draws to a close, with everyone meshing so well with their parts that it feels like you’re watching both Johansson and Driver reinventing themselves right up there on the screen.”
