Letter of the Day: Quentin Tarantino answers a 13-year-olds fan mail

I don’t picture Quentin Tarantino as the kind of guy who sits around and answers a lot of fanmail, especially those from 13-year-old girls, but back in 1996, that’s precisely what QT was doing. The great website Letters of Note tracked down this letter from Tarantino to Sarah, who had written after seeing FROM DUSK TILL DAWN.

Hi Sarah

Thank you for your very lovley letter. It’s the best letter I’ve gotten all year long. I’m glad you loved “Dusk”, it was one of my favrote times making a movie. And I feel my best performance so far. It’s cool to hear a girl into horror flicks.

Do you know about Itallion horror film maker Mario Bava? He did Blood and Black Lace, Black Sunday and Black Sabbith. He’s one of my favrotes. I read your letter to Mira, she loved it too. Write me anytime. I can’t wait for you to get your hands on a camera too.

P.S. Sarah, since you liked Dusk so much, coming out soon is a movie we did about the making of “Dusk” called “Full Tilt Boogie”. It shows how much fun we had. I hope you like it.

What’s kind of awesome, beyond Tarantino recommending Mario Bava to a 13-year-old, is that Sarah actually did get her hands on a camera, went to film school and is now an aspiring filmmaker in Austin.

So this begs the question, have you ever written an actor or director fanmail? And if so, did they write back?
