It’s kind of disheartening that the menace of the walking dead has been diminished to the point where the re-animated are animated in a family-ready movie. But on the plus side, it’s coming from the people behind the occasionally unsettling CORALINE, and it has some interesting talent in the voice cast.
In the original comedy-thriller PARANORMAN, “a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, moronic grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.”
The stop-motion 3D movie comes from company LAIKA and is being directed by Sam Fell (FLUSHED AWAY, THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX) and Chris Butler (CORALINE, THE CORPSE BRIDE). Voice cast includes Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Leslie Mann, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bernard Hill (LOTR), Anna Kendrick, Elaine Stritch, and LET ME IN star Kodi Smit-McPhee as Norman.
Focus will release the movie on August 17th, 2012.
