This weekend Kevin Smith will grace the stage of Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con (after the opening act, Marvel Studios) and will debut the very first trailer for his new, highly-anticipated movie – JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT. It will be the best look yet at his return to the classic characters (played by Jason Mewes and Smith), and in order to tease the impending glory the filmmaker has shared a new, gritty, epic poster for the movie-within-a-movie, BLUNTMAN AND CHRONIC, the rebooted version of the movie the title duo originally sought to destroy in JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK.

The poster (from artist Mariano Diaz) shows this very new look at Bluntman and Chronic, who before looked more like the Adam West and Burt Ward versions of Batman and Robin from the 60s, but have now been given the grounded reboot spin, looking like they’re from Zack Snyder’s BATMAN V. SUPERMAN. You will also notice that Chronic (based off Jay) is now a woman, and in his long caption, Smith teased two big celebrities underneath the cowl and the super suits.

“This weekend at Comic-Con, we’ll be debuting the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot trailer during my Saturday night Hall H panel (right after the Marvel Studios panel)! It’ll go out to the world soon after, so folks are going to see much more of the cast, plot and in-movie artwork. So in anticipation, I’ll be sharing images from Jay and Silent Bob Reboot that I haven’t made public yet. Like this faux movie artwork upon which our plot turns.

In the new adventure, Jay and Silent Bob find out the old Bluntman and Chronic movie that was based on them is getting a reboot – so they go back to Hollywood to stop it all over again! But as with any reboot, the source material has been modernized – so the rebooted Bluntman movie (the reboot of the movie that starred Jason Biggs and James Van Der Beek now features a female Chronic! I won’t spoil who plays the new Bluntman and Chronic (it’s in the trailer), so I’ll take some guesses instead: Who’s Behind the Masks?

When the trailer drops this weekend, you’ll get to see if you were right. But if you’re at Saturday night’s “Kevin Smith Reboots Hall H” panel, you’ll not only see the Reboot trailer: I’m gonna show you the Bluntman movie-in-a-movie scene too! I can’t wait to start sharing this epic! It’s my all-time favorite of all my flicks and also a meta scrapbook of my entire career (and life) that sequelizes all the View Askew movies in one sprawling story!”

(NOTE: Reboot comes out in the Fall. The B&C poster says “Summer” because that’s when it comes out in the #viewaskewniverse.) Art by #marianodiaz#KevinSmith#comiccon #hallh #reboot#jayandsilentbob #viewaskewniverse

He continued, saying that some people have guessed correctly who Chronic is, but no one has guessed who plays Bluntman yet. That means obvious choices like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are out, the two being longtime friends of Smith and who have had roles and cameos in past movies. As for Chronic, a likely guess would be Melissa Benoist, who Smith has worked with having directed her in several episodes of SUPERGIRL…and because it sort of looks like her in the poster. It’s likely other people have been guessing names linked to the actual Marvel and DC movie universes, and while that offers a lot of names, I guess we will have to see on Saturday. It is worth noting, though, that Nicolas Cage's name has been linked to the movie, and the once-Superman may be getting a new shot at superherodom.

The plot of STRIKES BACK involved the two going on a road trip to stop the making of the first Bluntman and Chronic movie (starring James Van Der Beek and Jason Biggs), and this new movie follows the same path as they then go to stop the rebooted version from getting made. Plenty of old faces are returning, like Shannon Elizabeth, Jason Lee, Biggs, Van Der Beek, Joey Lauren Adams and many more. There's also a cavalcade of new names involved, so come Saturday we could be seeing a slew of cameos in the trailer, so stick around here for all that greatness.
