Katherine Waterston will star in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant

Although it was unfortunate that PROMETHEUS didn't live up to its pre-release hype, I'm still very interested to see where the story of Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender) leads. The sequel will feature a new group of deep-space explorers and it seems as though the first of them have been cast as Deadline reports that Katherine Waterston (INHERENT VICE) has landed the lead role in Ridley Scott's ALIEN: COVENANT.

Even though Ridley Scott seems to love talking about ALIEN: COVENANT every chance he can, we still know very little of what the sequel will contain. At the moment it's assumed that ALIEN: COVENANT will "follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet, who discover what they believe is an uncharted paradise but is, in fact, a dark, dangerous world, the only inhabitant of which is David (Michael Fassbender), the “synthetic” and survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition." Katherine Waterston will play a character by the name of Daniels, in what is believed to be the first of a new trilogy of ALIEN films which will fill in the blanks between PROMETHEUS and the 1979 original.

Although her role in ALIEN: COVENANT will likely be her biggest role to date, it's not like Katherine Waterston is some newbie. Just in the past few years she's appeared in Danny Boyle's STEVE JOBS, Paul Thomas Anderson's INHERENT VICE, and will be starring alongside Eddie Redmayne in the Harry Potter spin-off FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM, which is set for a November 18, 2016 release.
