Jude Law says Marvel security was way more intense than on Fantastic Beasts

In this day and age of social media and everyone having both a computer and a camera with them at all times, it’s becoming harder and harder for filmmakers to keep elements of their movie secret from the public. Any major blockbuster usually has the lid kept on tight during production, but some studios are much more desperate to keep secrets hidden than others. Jude Law has first-hand experience with this and recently revealed that the security on FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD is nothing compared to what he faced on CAPTAIN MARVEL.

Law was speaking with Stephen Colbert last night to promote FB, when towards the end of the interview he was asked if he could reveal anything about the young version of Albus Dumbledore (internet names for him including "Dumbledaddy," "Dumbledamn," and "Yumbledore"). He’s sworn to secrecy, unfortunately, but said that the studio had a rather calm way about informing him about not spilling the beans everywhere. Okay, maybe it’s a mix of calm and terrifying…

“I think it might be this British-American difference. With Fantastic Beasts, they’re like, ‘We assume you’re not gonna give any secrets away, and if you do, we’re going to tell you not to again. Then we may quietly kill you.”

On the other hand, there was his experience with working on the latest Marvel movie, a place where secrets are guarded like the deepest levels of the Pentagon, with people on set keeping things under wraps like they were in the Secret Service.

“On set they would say, ‘Mr. Law, we’re ready for you,’ and you’d step out in your suit and he’d be like, ‘Put the cloak on! Put the cloak on! Hide! Put the hood up!’ I mean, everywhere you went. My children visited the set and they were running after them. ‘Sign the NDAs! Sign the NDAs! Who are these guys?’ It was tight! Scary.”

So yeah, one warning was more like being told something over a cup of tea, while the other is like being the president and having Gerard Butler yell something at you while he keeps you safe in hostile territory. Marvel security sounds incredibly intense, and I totally get it. When movies like AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR have endings as they do, the last thing you want is for some paparazzo coming by and taking pictures of Spider-Man's ashy corpse.

Law reiterated on Colbert what has become the normal response when he talks about his MARVEL role, which is that he can't say who he's playing. We once thought he was Mar-Vell, but he still refuses to either confirm or deny. This may be something Marvel wants to wait and reveal in promotional material, or they'll wait until the movie comes out to surprise us all. All we know is they made him put the cloak on for a reason, which is very mysterious indeed. Wait, does Marvel have an invisibility cloak?
