John Wick 3 writing underway & could start filming this year

For any of you JOHN WICK fans out there who are still fawning over the recent CHAPTER TWO you will be happy to know that CHAPTER THREE is coming at us like we murdered its puppy and stole its car. The second movie left things on an epic cliffhanger, and director Chad Stahelski said filming for the next chapter could kick off very soon to pick up right where they left off.

The director spoke with Collider about the current script status and possible production date of the third outing, saying how writing has already started and now they’re just waiting for things on the production end to pick up the pace so they can hopefully get to film this year:

Yeah — we’re currently in the middle of writing it right now. It’s more of a how fast can we get our shit together. But I would assume that if not by the end of this year, the beginning of next year.

We got an exclusive chat with Stahelski in which the director talked about how the sequel won’t necessarily aim to be bigger and grander than the last two, but that it’s all about keeping things “different” and “creative”. When talking to Collider, Stahelski brought up how the third movie could explore where and how John Wick (Keanu Reeves) learned to become the assassin extraordinaire he is, but that the story won’t give every little detail away. You gotta put the pieces together yourself:

Where’s he from? Well — he speaks all these languages. We’re giving you the pieces and I think it’s always good… Hopefully in five years, you and your buddies will talk about how ‘he’s this or he’s that.’ We’ll give you a couple more pieces and let you stitch it together.

Sounds like JOHN WICK THREE will have some “PULP FICTION briefcase” mysteries to it, which I of course am more than down for. The WICK movies have been doing an excellent job of delivering the bloody mayhem action fans crave, while being insatiably intricate in the detail of their own unique world. How that will continue in THREE is anyone’s guess, but as long as Reeve’s cracks as many skulls as he can along the way I’m sure it will be marvelous.
